What began as a small village garage in 1972 has grown into a substantial automotive business in Grimsby. Great Coates Motors moved from its original premises in Great Coates to a modern facility on the South Humberside Industrial Estate, gradually expanding its activities well beyond traditional vehicle repairs under the leadership of managing director Allan McCartney.

Unlike a conventional used car dealership, vehicle sales are just one part of the operation. The business supplies cars, vans and commercial vehicles, with a varied selection that also includes 4x4s and occasional campervans. Alongside its retail activities, Great Coates Motors operates a vehicle rental and contract hire division serving private customers and businesses locally and across the UK.

Its technical background remains a defining feature. Appointed as a Bosch Car Service centre in 2002, the company operates an 8,000-square-foot workshop with trained technicians, modern diagnostic equipment and a dedicated parts department. Its facilities cover servicing and repairs for cars, vans and motorhomes, including modern hybrid and electric vehicles, reflecting the breadth of expertise developed over more than five decades.
