Five generations of motor trade history lie behind Martin Atkinson Cars and Vans, with the family's automotive roots stretching back to 1896. Martin joined his father Russell's business in Scunthorpe in 1982, continuing a tradition that now involves his own sons, Toby and Harvey. That heritage has helped shape a dealership with a particular interest in prestige, sports and luxury vehicles.

An important turning point came in 2016, when the company expanded into bespoke commercial vehicles. What began as an extension of its established car business has developed into a specialist operation supplying high-specification vans and customised pickups. Harvey Atkinson has a particular interest in individually tailored pickup trucks, while the Volkswagen van division benefits from the extensive manufacturer experience of Chris Gravill, a former Volkswagen Van Centre general manager.

Vehicle selection and presentation remain central to the business. Much of the stock is sourced through established prestige dealership networks, with an emphasis on documented service histories and carefully prepared vehicles. Rather than employing a conventional sales team, Martin and his colleagues deal directly with customers, arranging individual viewings by appointment.
